Saturn in Pisces Transit and Natal

The last time Saturn was in Pisces was April 1996. On March 7th, 2023, Saturn enters Pisces, the last sign of the zodiac, for the first time in 27 years!

Saturn transits are one of the most important transits to follow. After 5 years of Saturn transiting its two domiciles (Capricorn and Aquarius), this is going to feel so very different from what we’re used to. In the signs of its domicile, Saturn can feel very heavy and constricting (as if I needed to say that – we were all here; these last few years have been a true horror show). This next period of three years with Saturn in Pisces is going to be a HUGE change of pace from the last five! Everything is going to feel different – Saturn is no longer at its most powerful and it’s like we’re breaking free, letting out a breath we’ve been holding in for years, and the very structure of our world feels a little looser and easier to move in.

Saturn in Pisces dates

March 7th, 2023: Saturn enters Pisces

May 24th, 2025: Saturn enters Aries

September 1st, 2025: Saturn retrogrades back into Pisces

February 13th, 2026: Saturn enters Aries, concluding Saturn’s time in Pisces.

In 2015-2017, Saturn was in Sagittarius and as a world we were on the road, looking for where we belong.

2017-2020 was for building our cabin in the woods. Saturn was in Capricorn.

In 2020-2023 Saturn was in Aquarius and we moved to a city in the desert, parched and struggling with the balance between the self and the world.

From 2023 through early 2026, Saturn is in Pisces and we’re washing away the sand and the bruises and taking a big sip of water. Perhaps we’re on the road again, but this time the road is the ocean. Where are we going?'

What does Saturn in Pisces mean?

With Saturn in Pisces, we’re not struggling to build nor struggling against the past. Instead, we are letting things dissolve, move, and change. We’re trusting. Accepting. Carving out channels for our waters to flow through and things aren’t quite so serious. No Saturn transit is “easy”, but this feels like a breath of fresh air, even if only because it feels so different from what we’re used to.

While Saturn is in Pisces, Pisces themes get pretty loud and are extra important to pay attention to. Saturn in Pisces is about: resolution, letting go, building the staircase to our wildest dreams, letting ourselves dream, making space for flow (perhaps even making space in your physical home?), learning to trust our intuition and the flow of time, trusting that we have enough time, resolving spiritual trauma or blockages, spiritual crises, creating a sound spiritual structure to flow through, working on trust and acceptance in general, sharing the burden > martyrdom, resolving creative blockages and blockages to profound and transcendent connection with other individuals and the universe at large, and issues of compassion and togetherness in a cold world.

Through this Saturn in Pisces transit, compassion becomes a bit fashionable again, softness reigns, and we reconnect to the porous and fluid aspects of society and ourselves. We are less concerned with what label we fit in, more concerned with carving out space for utopian ideals to grow in. Saturn in Pisces sets genuine care for the fate of the world in stone.

Pisces is ruled by Jupiter and Neptune, so within Pisces there are themes around belief, trust, acceptance, hope, spirituality, illusion/delusion, and fantasy. Saturn loves cold, hard reality, and this clashes with the Neptunian-Jupiterian nature of Pisces. As a result, we’re likely to experience lots of reality checks as our blind faith is tested, mirages fall, and illusions are shattered. Saturn in Pisces is about pulling back the velvet curtain and finding out that the Great and Powerful Wizard of Oz has always been just a man. Saturn in Pisces asks the pressing question of Joan Osbourne’s “One of Us” (one of several songs on my Spotify playlist about Saturn in Pisces that was, incidentally, released the last time Saturn was in Pisces in the mid-1990s): “what if ‘god’ was one of us?” Saturn in Pisces both brings the otherworldy-spiritual back down to earth and invites us to recognize ‘god’ in everyday people.

Saturn in Pisces brings our big dreams back down to earth, too — while Pisces’ Jupiterian-Neptunian nature dreams big, Saturn likes to remain grounded. Pisces is also a water sign, so it carries strong themes around flow and what it takes to maintain flow. Saturn is system-oriented; Pisces very much isn’t. Saturn in Pisces asks us to carve out a channel for our waters to flow through more effortlessly into the future. What practical steps must we take to get to the utopian horizon we’ve been dreaming of?

Pisces’ symbol is two fish swimming in opposite directions but linked together by a band, representing the paradoxical nature of reality, the double-bodied nature of Pisces, and the way that Pisces is both the beginning and the end, with one foot here on earth and one foot someplace else. With Pisces being both the last sign of the zodiac and a mutable sign (mutable signs all come at the end of the earth’s seasons — they are like the earth’s exhale), Saturn in Pisces is rich with lessons around change and learning to let go, exhale, and move ahead by leaving something behind.

Who will feel Saturn in Pisces most strongly? Mutable risings (Pisces, Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius. Anyone who will be in a Saturn-ruled or Pisces-ruled protection year while Saturn is in Pisces. Anyone with personal planets in mutable signs.
