This book was excellent. There was enough scientific information to back up the author's conclusions but it was not so much that a non-medically trained person like myself couldn't understand the ideas. Sometimes things in one chapter were repeated in another one but this is understandable when you consider that all the body's processes are interconnected.
I was fascinated to learn the science behind the idea that not getting enough sleep can be a factor in making the body store fat - I had thought that this was just some pop culture idea put in women's magazines to assuage the guilt of those who couldn't be bothered to diet properly!
I would recommend this book to friends and family (their health is important to me - I don't want to live a long, healthy life and have them all die off before me) and to any stressed, rushing woman out there who can make herself stop long enough to actually read the book.

I got this at the library and realized that it had to become part of my library. The deal on Amazon of having the book in not only Kindle but on Audible was impossible to resist. Some people have had a problem with the authors rounding condemnation of the overindulgence in alcohol. Everything that I have read and my doctor have all told me that women have a harder time metabolizing alcohol without damage than men. I found this book very informative and it gave me some food for thought that I hadn't seen anywhere else, and I I am a glutton for healthcare books, articles, and YouTube videos. It is Well written and easy to understand, although there are times that the author Skip's excessive detail in order to be understandable to the average reader. I would like to see some of those more in-depth points linked or footnoted to scholarly articles or references for those who have a background in healthcare or who desire further study.

I appreciate the authors writing and that she makes things understandable and engaging.

I have heard Dr. Libby Weaver in person and when reading her books (Accidentally Overweight and Rushing Woman's Syndrome)  Accidentally Overweight (Accidentally Overweight, Solve your weight loss puzzle) I hear her delightful New Zealand accent. I also have a vivid picture of her explanation of how we clog up our "livva". I hadn't thought too much about my 'livva' as I don't smoke or drink.... but I DO eat as I rush through my day ... often regardless of healthy choices.

My background is nursing but I believe I learned - and will remember - more from this book about the interconnectedness of lifestyle and body systems than I ever have from classes and textbooks.
Dr. Libby's style is entertaining as well as educational. She has her pulse on what it's like to be a woman trying to balance life's activities while - and yes, we all do it! - trying to please everyone and "keep the peace" from day to day.

You'll love this book and want to mark the spots that speak to you most specifically.
I hasten to say it just might change the way you rush through your day !!

Amazing book! But I would prefer if y'all started selling hard copies In the states. I wanted to buy copies for my sister and my mom but I could only find it digitally. It is a great book. I learned so much about how the body works and it seriously helped me understand how stress can control many aspects of someone's life and how it actually affects the body. I'm a happier and healthier person now.

I love how it’s like dr. Libby is in my head, pointing out the things I deep down have thought of and fear to be wrong or in need of change. This book is helping me get real with myself and navigate my way through my head, giving me the courage to also take care of me. I think all women should read this book. Take it as a text book...something you’ll refer to time and again.

I read this on recommendation from a friend. Like a lot of working mothers that I know, I found the description of the "rushing woman" very familiar (except for the author's obsession with alcohol - not everyone drinks!). The explanation of the impact on our bodies is clear, though I would have appreciated more links to established research - I felt the book was light-on in that regard and it made me suspicious that I was reading opinion, not something science-based.

Where I feel the book lets the reader down is in it's patronising and moralising tone - that it's your fault you're a "rushing woman" and if only you would make mental and physical space to "relax" and "change your perspective" then you'd feel a lot better. This is simply victim-blaming.

We live in a world where the odds are stacked against women - the "to-do" list is not something you invented yourself, it's there because there is a social and economic demand to work full-time while raising two (no more, no fewer) children, paying the mortgage and somehow making time for Pilates and yoga (but don't bulk up too much and don't be either too thin or too fat). In this respect I found the book perpetuating unrealistic expectations of women.

What did I hope for instead? Maybe some acknowledgement of the structural nature of this problem - that until women are recognised for the value of their caring roles, until women are paid equally for the work they do, until women have social equality and equality of political representation, this will be a never-ending problem.

My other criticism is that I do not see any acknowledgement in this book of women who are anything other than wealthy and white, which made it difficult to relate to. If you have unlimited resources, if you do indeed have choice, then Dr Libby's suggestions are probably gold. But so many women don't have the luxury. But maybe they also don't have the time to read this book...

I have just finished reading this ... It has been incredibly enlightening and helpful on a number of levels for us ladies & what makes us tick plus our complex bio chemistry including nervous system, endocrine system & gut bio & how our lifestyles & nutrition & movement either create a context for healthy body mind & spirit or put endless pressure on our nervous system leading to a whole host of health issues ... wow 🤩 is all I will say... & not unsurprisingly our belief system & our child development is instrumental in all we are today... she gives practical strategies for change on a number of levels (and interestingly she covers the toxicity of alcohol unashamedly & why we might have used it to relax, relieve stress etc).

she has a number of other books - Accidentally overweight & The Invisible Load ... as I have progressed since October & lost 38lb I found this so helpful as not only did it contextualise where I was in the months leading up to October 2020 but also how & why I have been able to lose weight fairly seemlessly since I “stopped” & allowed my nervous system to heal whilst also eating well, moving well & also removing a toxic aggravator ...alcohol.

This book will definitely help you reflect on all you hold dear whilst getting you to question what “drives” you and to more fully understand the damaging impact of rushing from one thing to another.
